I'm blessed to have the opportunity to play for this great organization with so much history. We joined the National Football League in 1925 as one of five teams in the league and are the league’s longest established team in the Northeast United States at 90 years. The first game was against All New Britain on October 4, 1925. We beat them 26-0 in front of a crowd of 10,000 people. People started to criticize the professional league saying that college players were more intense than professional players. So on December 14, 1930 the Giants scheduled a game against the best team in college at the time, Notre Dame. The Giants would play the Notre Dame All Star team in a charity game to show the difference between college and professional ball. The game raised $100,000 for the homeless in New York City. Notre Dame never scored against the Giants and we won 22-0. Check out this banner I found from back then:
From 1933 to 1947, we played in 8 NFL championship games and won twice. The next time we won was 1956. This team included a number of future Pro Hall of Fame players such as running backs Frank Gifford and Alex Webster, linebacker Sam Huff, and offensive tackle Roosevelt Brown. These guys helped shape what it means to be a NY Giant. The first Super Bowl wasn’t held until 1967 and we won our first Super Bowl championship in 1986. We played in Super Bowl XXI, against the Denver Broncos and broke the record for highest pass completion at 88%. The final score was 39-20. We went on to win our second Super Bowl championship in 1990. As you all know, our next Super Bowl wasn’t until Coach Coughlin came on. In 2007 we went up against the Pats who were undefeated and the favored team to win. What a historic game that was, I remember watching it on TV in high school. We defeated the Patriots 17-14. Four years later we found ourselves back in the Super Bowl playing against the Pats. And we won that one 21-17.
This football organization has so much history. Out of all the teams in the NFL we're ranked third with eight NFL titles (1927, 1934, 1938, 1956, 1986, 1990, 2007, 2011). We also have more championship appearances than any other team, with 19 overall appearances. I think its time for another one. That's the goal for this team.
