Can Odell Beckham Jr. of the New York Giants be the best wide receiver in the NFL?

POSTED BY: ODELL BECKHAM JR in NEWS

The NFL currently has a surplus of high-end wide receivers with immense talent at the position throughout the league. Over the past years, Antonio Brown has secured the throne as the top wideout in the league, however; names like Odell Beckham Jr., Julio Jones, Mike Evans, A.J. Green and even Jordy Nelson tail closely and all credibly enter the debate for top guy.

Odell Beckham Jr. at age 24 has yet to reach his prime. The electric receiver has 288 receptions for over 4,000 yards and 35 touchdowns in only three seasons of play. New York’s young star has displayed he can compete at an exceptionally high level and dominate the league, with Rookie of the Year and two All-Pros already to his name.

Beckham has great speed and phenomenal hands that make him such an offensive threat. He has the ability to get open through being shifty down the field, running both slants and deep ball routes. However, his creativity makes him such a weapon. Odell has incredible ability to dodge and break tackles after the catch. Also, we have all seen his circus catches during warmups and in games that make him near impossible to guard.

Can Odell be the best receiver in the league? Yes, he can. But, the crucial question remains; will he be? After all of his off-field issues many may disagree with me, but I say in the near future he will dethrone Antonio Brown as the league’s best. At age 28 (29 in July), Brown will remain number one for this season and maybe the next. Although, with his age in mind, Brown has most likely already hit his plateau and now takes his journey downwards. In the next few years, it will be time for a new king and Odell will take over.

Beckham currently stands as the most talented receiver for many people, but that does not necessarily make him the best. As Odell matures on and off the field, and continues to improve his game he will be absolutely dominant and climb into the role of number one. Mike Evans, at age 23, also has the youth and the similar tremendous potential as Odell. With that said, I still believe Odell will be crowned the best in the league due to his heart and incredible all-around athletic ability. In the next years, look for Beckham to take Brown’s spot and Evans to take Julio Jones’, as these two pairs share similar builds and playing styles.
