news / 02.01.2017 New York Giants: Odell Beckham Jr. Ranked Best Player Under 25
Pro Football Focus recently released their list of the Top 25 players under 25. Where did New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. rank?
One of the wide receivers in the NFL plays for the New York Giants, and his name is Odell Beckham Jr. At just 24-years-old, Beckham has emerged as a true star in the NFL.
The Giants drafted Beckham in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Despite not being the first wide receiver taken, Beckham has become the best of a talented draft class so far. In his rookie season, Beckham burst on the scene. In just 12 games, Beckham totaled 91 receptions, 1,305 receiving yards, and 12 receiving touchdowns.
Even though Beckham had arguably the best rookie season of all-time, he lived up to the hype in his sophomore season. In 2015, Beckham totaled 96 receptions, 1,450 receiving yards, and 13 receiving touchdowns.
This season, the Giants’ offense was a bit disappointing. However, Beckham was still able to put together a big season. In 2016, he totaled 101 receptions, 1,367 receiving yards, and 10 receiving touchdowns. His first three seasons were historic, and here’s what Pro Football Focus had to say about him.
Beckham is one of the game’s best wideouts, setting records in his first few seasons in the league and with the ability to make spectacular catches unrivaled in today’s NFL. Beckham was a second-team PFF All-Pro this season despite Eli Manning having the worst-graded season we have seen from him over the past decade and needing to do much of the hard work himself. He gained 532 of his 1,367 yards after the catch but forced a league-leading (among WRs) 29 missed tackles to do it.
Being ranked the best player under 25 is certainly a huge honor for Beckham. He was able to edge out some other really talented players, including Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell in addition to others.
Furthermore, there is a lot of pressure on Beckham in New York. He did not end his 2016 season the way that he would have liked against the Packers. However, he is still one of the best wide receivers in the league, and his future is bright.
