Young New York Giants Stars Proving ‘Next Year’ is Now

POSTED BY: ODELL BECKHAM JR in NEWS

In recent years, the G-Men have continually bolstered their roster with young talent across the board, giving New York its fair share of hope that Big Blue will have a bright future ahead of them for many years to come.

Now, even looking ahead to next year may be too far ahead, as the Giants are playing and winning like a legitimate playoff contender now.

The only thing that’s really surprising about the success of New York’s young studs is just how fast they’ve been able to find their niche and contribute on such a consistent basis.

Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., 24, has been front and center of the youth movement, playing at such an elite level through his first three seasons that his name is already included in the discussion of potentially being one of the greatest receivers of all time.

OBJ has a new right hand man in rookie wideout Sterling Shepard. Drafted in the second round (40th overall), expectations were high for the 23-year-old Oklahoma Sooner product, but he’s already been able to exceed the hype, hauling in 39 receptions for 426 yards and 4 TDs through their first ten games.

Incredibly, the production has begun to ramp up from a couple more new guys on the offensive end in rookie running back Paul Perkins and second-year tight end Will Tye.

Perkins, who just turned 22, was selected in fifth round (149th overall) and had expectations to contribute in the future, but has already carved out a role thanks to his workhorse mentality.

Meanwhile, the “homegrown” Tye out of Middletown, CT had to work his way onto the 53-man roster after coming out of Stony Brook undrafted. Now Tye has established himself as a trustworthy target for Eli Manning as he splits time with veteran Larry Donnell.

Switch the spotlight over to the defensive end and there stands sophomore safety Landon Collins. Landon Collins, only 22, has made leaps and bounds from his rookie year and now leads the G-Men in tackles, sacks, and interceptions while he makes a case for defensive player of the year.

There was a long list of reasons to be excited about the Giants’ future, but that future just happened to come a whole lot sooner than anyone could have anticipated.
